MSNBC's weekend news show AM Joy provided a platform for an all LGBTQ panel on Sunday, August 23, to discuss the Biden/Harris 2020 ticket and what their future presidency will mean for LGBTQ Americans. The panel included guest host Jonathan Capehart (The Washington Post), Democratic strategist Aisha Moodie-Mills, Kate Sosin (The 19th), and LGBTQ activist and Pulse shooting survivor Brandon Wolf.
Wolf did not hold back in his scathing assessment of President Trump following the release of a video by The Log Cabin Republicans, the largest group of LGBTQ conservatives in the US, that touted Trump as the "most pro-gay president in American history."
In typical Trump fashion, he retweeted the video with the caption: "My great honor!!!" in response to the undeserved praise from the conservative gay group.
Wolf wasn't having it and described the praise as "hot garbage" and "totally delusional."
"We don't have to guess what kind of president Donald Trump is for LGBTQ Americans. We don't have to believe Richard Grenell on how Donald Trump will treat LGBTQ Americans. We already know because we've seen the policies in action," said Wolf.
"This is a president who kicked transgender people out of homeless shelters and argued that said same-sex couples should be barred from adopting children. This is a president who just two months ago, on the four-year remembrance of the shooting at Pulse nightclub, tried to rip non-discrimination protections away from LGBT+ folks going to see a doctor.
“Donald Trump has been at war with the LGBT+ community from the day he set foot in office. We have an amateur fascist in the White House who has LGBT+ folks squarely in his crosshairs, and our fight today is to wrestle the country back out of his greedy, corrupt hands on November 3, because, quite frankly, there may be no democracy left once he’s done with it.”
