We wear the mask that grins and lies, It hides our cheeks and shades our eyes,— This debt we pay to human guile; With torn and bleeding hearts we smile And mouth with myriad subtleties, Why should the world be over-wise, In counting all our tears and sighs? Nay, let them only see us, while We wear the mask. We smile, but oh great Christ, our cries To thee from tortured souls arise. We sing, but oh the clay is vile Beneath our feet, and long the mile, But let the world dream otherwise, We wear the mask!
-Paul Laurence Dunbar
Black gay men are nothing if not resilient. We have the unique ability to adapt, to overcome and to persevere through what would be considered insurmountable odds for the average individual, and more often than not—we look damn good while exerting our super powers, while simultaneously influencing the rest of the culture. We may be in the midst of a global pandemic, but in addition to maintaining social distancing, Black gay men have also found ways to make the latest required accessory fashionable and sexy. Take a look at some of the stunning brothers we came across online who are doing their part to remain healthy while also raising their voices in the fight to eradicate racism without losing an ounce of sex appeal.
