For three seasons, Damian Toofeek Raven has been a force in his portrayal of Chadwick on the gay Amazon Prime series "The Chadwick Jounals," and now his work is being recognized with a Daytime Emmy Award nomination. Raven is nominated for Outstanding Principal Performance in a Daytime Program.
The Chadwick Journals is a spin-off of "The DL Chronicles," from creators Quincy and Deondray Gossfield. Similar to its artistic predecessor, "The Chadwick Journals" chronicles the complex stories of men of color who lead double lives.
The married creators broke the exciting news to Raven during a phone call that they shared with fans of the show on their Facebook.
"Wow! Wow! Wow! I’m speechless. Absolutely speechless. Emotional. Tears of joy. We just got an Emmy nomination!!!!!!!!!!," wrote Gossfield in a post on Facebook.
"Damian Toofeek Raven thank you sooooo much for taking this long and arduous journey with us as Chadwick; through The DL Chronicles in cable TV, to cancellation, to a fledgling streaming series spinoff on Amazon Prime, to a friggin’ Daytime Emmy Nomination!!!!!! WTH?! It’s been a labor of love and you’ve put your craft and love over ego and have shown up for us since 2005!
Sometimes when you want to give up, we remember why we do this, why we suffer for our art, and it’s moments like these, that make it all worthwhile.Damian Toofeek Ravenyou deserve this for giving so much of yourself to this role and to our friendship for 15 years!," added Gossfield.
All three seasons of "The Chadwick Journals" are currently streaming on Amazon Prime. In addition to Raven's performance, LGBTQ viewers can also expect to see familiar faces in actors Jensen Atwood and Nic Few.
The 47th Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony will be televised on CBS on June 26 at 8pm ET.
